The PRECISE (Prepare, REact, Collect, Innovate, Share, and Engage) Pandemic Platform is a clinical study that recruits participants to collect biological samples to study new and emerging infectious agents.
I created these illustrations to guide the PRECISE participants’ understanding of how to collect samples. As of May 2026. these guides have been supplied to patients exposed to Hantavirus.

Style Development
I created a style sheet with sample illustrations to guide my work through all 11 guides. To match the brand colours of PRECISE, I used blue backgrounds and arrows. Characters were developed in a variety of skin tones, a marked difference from existing sampling guides that are either grayscale or depict pale-skinned bodies.
Labels and text are minimal in the illustrations themselves. To make these guides as accessible as possible, I designed the illustrations such that they alone could carry the story. Low literacy and ESL patients can still benefit from the guides without needing to engage with the text as deeply as entirely text-based guides.
The final deliverable was a series of powerpoint slides with embedded SVGs. This format allows the client to modify the order of steps, add or remove sampling kit materials, and edit text as needed. By keeping the final product flexible, I contribute to PRECISE’s adaptability in the face of new and emerging diseases.
