In collaboration with anthropologists at the University of Guelph, I developed these three comics based off people’s experiences with nature during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working from interview transcripts, I developed visual narratives that explore the peace (and occasional frustration) that people found in the natural world during those fraught years.
These stories expand on the idea that lockdown was purely negative. While there was a great deal of suffering, many people had an opportunity for introspection. By using the medium of comics, this research is accessible outside the academic sphere of journal publications, broadening its reach.
